Robert Epstein

Director

For the past 25 years, Robert Epstein has been teaching his long-term training program for actors: The Complete Meisner-Based Actor's Training for Stage, Film and TV, first in his original NY Studio, and, for the past 15 years, in Washington, D.C., providing in-depth training in areas such as Character Work, Film and TV acting, Audition Technique and Classical Technique. He has acted and directed in Theatre, Film and Television projects in NY and DC, and, in addition to his regular training program, has conducted explorations of film and theatre technique through a number of unique projects within his Studio: In a one-time program for actors and directors, "Improvising Characters for Film Creation," Robert collaborated with two local film directors to train actors in the creation of original film material. Robert created a workshop with playwright Jeffrey Sweet in which actors had the opportunity to be jointly directed by Jeff and Robert in one of Jeff's original plays. He also worked together with casting director Jane Brody, leading disciple of master audition teacher Michael Shurtleff, who appeared as a studio guest in a weekend-long training program in Cold Reading Technique. He also taught a unique 12-week program for the DC area's leading Voiceover artists, training them to apply Meisner's truthful acting techniques to a variety of voiceover materials and venues. For two years, Robert acted as a judge for The Actors Center's Scene Evening competition. Robert has created and taught a variety of workshops for both The Actor's Center and the DC SAG Local's Conservatory, covering a number of techniques for the area's professional stage and film actors. His work in the studio has been the subject of articles in the Washington Post, Washington Times, and Post Express, and recently he gave an interview for Verizon Fios Television which included footage of his classes and was shown on Verizon Cable.
